ABSTRACT

During the last quarter century, children in the Republic of Serbia living in unfavorable environments have been exposed to an increased risk of violence. The Republic of Serbia has developed national policies to define the goals, tasks, procedures, and responsibilities of both the system and individuals in an effort to protect children from abuse, neglect, and all forms of exploitation. The healthcare protocols, which were developed for healthcare institutions and healthcare workers, provide guidelines that help to protect children against abuse and neglect within healthcare institutions at all levels. So far, one-third of Serbian health institutions have connected to the online recording system. According to 2014 data, 37 institutions responded by inputting 476 questionnaires and registering 451 instances of suspected abuse and neglect. The main objective of the data-reporting application is to ensure that information is continually updated so that health institutions are able to analyze and respond to any instances of child abuse and/or neglect.
