ABSTRACT

In today's Turkey, diversified healthcare services are being provided for a population of nearly 80 million people within more than 1500 healthcare facilities and by almost 800,000 healthcare staff. Improvements to the Turkish healthcare system began with the issuing of 100 quality standards by the Ministry of Health (MoH) in 2005. Initiatives involving more than 1500 hospitals have been created since 2012, and all are important to the continuing improvement and patient-safety culture in the country. In addition, they have ensured that Turkey has achieved International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua) accreditation and alignment with international standards. Besides the accreditation system, which has been established for all healthcare services in Turkey, additional accreditation and regulatory systems are being created within the overarching initiatives of the Health Transformation Program. These include systems of accreditation for undergraduate and graduate medical training, provision of nursing care, and clinic-based national accreditation systems.
