ABSTRACT

Health services in Jordan are provided by the public and private sectors. The public sector includes the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Royal Medical Services (RMS). In 2013, according to the World Bank, health expenditure in Jordan amounted to 7.2" of the gross domestic product (GDP). With the support of the WHO and the World Bank, Jordan has reviewed its healthcare financing mechanisms and is working on a universal health coverage plan. To help the new organization in its initial start-up phase, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded the Jordan Health Care Accreditation Project to institutionalize accreditation and ensure the sustainability of patient safety efforts in Jordan. The Health Care Accreditation Council (HCAC) is the driver of healthcare quality improvement and patient safety promotion in Jordan. The HCAC works at the micro level by building the capacity of healthcare professionals to improve quality and patient safety.
