ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses there are a number of issues regarding spatial ability. It reviews the literature surrounding measures and dimensions of spatial ability. The chapter details the effects of spatial ability on individual and team performance. It considers moderating variables and discusses the analysis data set. The chapter reviews the spatial ability and how it relates to imagery analysis and performance with unmanned systems. The practical relationship between spatial ability and performance in technical areas is likely to generalize to performance with unmanned systems. Research has demonstrated that team discussion of an unmanned system's location in an environment is associated with the number of targets that are identified by that team. Research has indicated that there are differences in the performance of individual operators and operator teams. One area of performance where a relationship has emerged between spatial ability and individual operator performance is target identification.
