ABSTRACT

This chapter shows that the methodology proposed for heritage architecture and climate studios, which combines assessment and analysis of traditional architecture, from its vernacular condition with the experience and analysis of extreme climate in situ. The traditional architecture of the areas is a good example of the adaption of foreign techniques and forms to its specific context, which constitutes our architectural heritage. The methodology proposed for heritage architecture and climate studios, includes assessment and analysis of traditional architecture, from its vernacular condition. The studio sustain that the vernacular aspects, climate variety and seismic conditions, require particular attention in the case of Chile, when proposing an intervention. The heritage and climate architectural studio courses are based on the educational model of social construction of knowledge combined with the traditional "learn by doing", "learn from the past" and "work-ups" methods, where 'show and tell' from peers coming from different Chilean latitudes becomes an important input for learning.
