ABSTRACT

The relations between engineering and architecture, as two independent and separated fields, are considered to be complex and challenging, in practice and in the academy. The separation between engineering and architecture, as two different disciplines, and the distinction between the engineer and the architect, as different professions, is an outcome of a process that occurred in the last centuries. The roots of the relations between engineering aspects and architectural aspects in the act of creation of a shelter or a building are deep and go back to the beginning of the history of the human being. In the conservation field, different conservation studies appeared by the time in architectural education but also in engineering education. In addition to that, many of the historical buildings, which are under a conservation process nowadays, were designed as a hole entity without a distinction between architecture and engineering.
