ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the experimental results of bond tests carried out by four laboratories University of Sannio, University of Bologna, University of Padova, Cracow University of Technology within the activities of a Round Robin Test organized by the Rilem TC 250-Composites for the Sustainable strengthening of Masonry. All bond tests were realized according to a single shear set-up on red clay bricks strengthened by different types of Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) materials and glued with two types of adhesive: an epoxy resin and a polymer polyurethane adhesive. Effectiveness of various wet-lay-up FRP strengthening systems for masonry elements has been widely tested in recent years using stiff adhesives as epoxy resin. The loaded end of the FRP sheet was mechanically clamped between two steel plates by means of glue and bolts; the tensile force was applied by means of an electromechanical actuator, with a hinge allowing for rotations around the vertical axis.
