ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the influence of external reinforcement of steel fiber mesh bonded to the surface; on the load bearing capacity of earth block masonry is studied. Earth Block masonry houses were mainly built in South east part of Europe being part of historic centers of the regional towns. Earth block masonry houses constitute a great stock of Heritage Structures in the historic centers of many towns in Europe particularly in the south and east part of it, which is also the most vulnerable to earthquakes. Earth buildings are gradually vanished in Europe either from abandonment or inappropriate interventions. Triplets were built with earth blocks, cured for a month and tested in axial compression load, in compression with a stable transverse loading and in shear stress according to EN1052-3-2002 test procedure. Although earth block masonry is not included in Eurocode, an evaluation is at tempted based on its expressions.
