ABSTRACT

The city of Timisoara is located in the western part of Romania, close to the border with Serbia and Hungary. Historically, it played an important defensive role during the Ottoman Empire and the AustrianHungarian Empire occupations. Surrounding swamps and moats made the fortress of the city difficult to be conquered. In 2013 the historic lock was discovered after the excavation works for the complex of buildings Timisoara City Business Centre. In order to restore the historic memory of the initial building, the lock will be translated and displayed within an "urban-plaza" space, within the ensemble of the newly constructed buildings. This aspect is going to be achieved with the help of architects and engineers which will demonstrate the benefits of urban regeneration given by these types of special buildings. The lock's hatch was built out of stone blocks and integrated in the contour of the counterscarp wall by rounding the stones from the corner.
