ABSTRACT

Santa Ana de los Rios de Cuenca is part of the World Heritage List since December 1st, 1999. The city deserved this international recognition, due to its intangible and tangible values present in the fusion of different cultures, heritage buildings, the city street pattern, among other unique attributes. With respect to the heritage information, the city of Cuenca, at that time had access to three inventories, respectively compiled in the periods: 1975-1978, 1980-1982 and 1999. An important collaboration was established with the vlir project "World Heritage City Preservation Management" at the University of Cuenca. Once the heritage values and their attributes were established, the relation with other data sets that are directly related to monitoring actions such as disturbances and threats, constituted a fundamental step towards the design of the monitoring system. A system with the exposed characteristics will increase the support to heritage conservation by providing informed recommendations, which could guide tailored actions for a specific context.
