ABSTRACT

Korean traditional wood structure is complete by assembling wood members, which is the most similar to steel frame structure among general buildings. Basic material characteristics and characteristics of joint have great differences. Major building structures in Korean cultural assets are in wood structure. There are lack of studies and research for wooden structure. Under circumstances, the Younggwilu in Jagyeseowon was destroyed. The chapter examines surrounding environment and repair condition of the Younggwilu in Jagyeseowon and assume the cause of destruction through analysis based on the site survey at time of destruction. In April 2014, the Younggwilu in Jagyeseowon was destroyed abruptly without external forces such as earthquake and typhoon. It is the first attempt to figure out the structural characteristics of deteriorated traditional wood structure not from the destruction by external forces, but from surrounding environments and repair causing the change of load of traditional wood structure.
