ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the base of a management heritage system, developing objective methods of structural qualification, estimating and predicting the service life, and their relative maintenance costs over time. The International Federation for Structural Concrete has developed a guidance document for the management of concrete structures "Concrete structure management: ownership and guide to good practice". As a basic element of technical management systems it has been developed rating and ranking methods, which have been established as a necessary tool for assessing the condition of the structures. Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Spain determines the state index, or structure condition, from the deterioration index obtained for each component, being the overall index the largest of local indexes. Before developing the general outline of the technical management system of historical heritage, it has required a change in management approach, prioritizing the application of preventive conservation policies, structuring the management through a new proposal.
