ABSTRACT

The mitigation and the reduction of the seismic risk on historic centres is a topical theme: a demonstration of the increasing awareness is underlined by the involvement of scientific and technological specialists. Initiatives to increase the efficiency of activities involving the safeguard of historical architectural heritage are implemented with the aim of encouraging the establishment of measures for the seismic risk mitigation of historical centres in its own central and local offices. The topic of the seismic risk assessment and mitigation of historical constructions and historic urban centers strongly emerges after every earthquake and it must usually face with economic, technical, managerial and administrative obstacles. The damage level can be regarded as an indicator of the propensity of a building or a group of them to suffer damage caused by defined seismic events. The vulnerability assessment is also a fundamental step to define interventions priorities in the context of the seismic risk mitigation.
