ABSTRACT
This chapter analyzes the result of revitalization works of Horto Botanico and Vale dos Contos, the most important urban green area of Ouro Preto. It aims to analyze the meanings of Horto Botanico and Vale dos Contos, for the city and surroundings and its transformation over time, as well as the physical, functional and visual relationship with the city. The green area of Vale dos Contos was limited by the stream named Corrego dos Contos. The recuperation and reutilisation of Horto Botanico and Vale dos Contos as a public park has created in the town a differentiated option for tourism and leisure, enabling direct contact with nature and providing environmental enhancement. Once the implementation works were completed, the former Horto Botanico and the Vale dos Contos gained accessibility and Ouro Preto residents and tourists began to enjoy the park.
