ABSTRACT

Consideration of multiple risk factors is required to effectively evaluate and rank the relative risk performance of hydropower dams. This paper formulates comparison process of hydropower dams as a multi-criteria decision making model, and presents an approach by combining TOPSIS and grey correlation degree for solving the problem. This method can reflect both the relative closeness and geometrical similarity between the alternatives and the ideal solution. The methodology is applied to real cases in China to illustrate how the approach is used for the risk ranking problem of hydropower dams, which will assist dam owner and regulator in managing the hydropower dams in a simple and transparent way.
