      ABSTRACT

The navigation channel of Hai Phong port has total length of 42.8 km from buoy No.0 to Berth No.11 of Hoang Dieu wharf. This is a major economic lifeline of the north of Vietnam and the Red river delta. It is composed of Cam River channel, Bach Dang channel, Ha Nam Channel, and Lach Huyen Channel in which Bach Dang channel is being accreted with large sediment volume. To maintain the navigation depth of this channel, dredging work is conducted annually. However, it is sometimes deposited immediately after dredging. This study will focus on evaluating the back siltation amounts after each excavation and dredging phase from 2010–2014. Consequently, the back siltation process in the navigation channel is discovered. Furthermore, the impact of various factors such as sediment and hydrodynamic conditions is also discussed to point out the major reason resulting in the increase on the amount of back-siltation, and predicting the tendency of this phenomenon in future.
