ABSTRACT

An innovative densimetric technique based on precise absolute pressure measurements for determining high suspended sediment concentrations is presented, as well as the first results of field trials and applications. The method relies on a combination of pressure, temperature and water level sensors for collecting environmental variables which are mounted in such an assembly that once processed, their combined signals can be converted into the pursued concentration information. The method is intended to monitor semi-continuously or continuously the amount of suspended particles in any medium to highly-concentrated open-channel flow.
