ABSTRACT

There are two methods such as in-direct and direct measurements for bedload discharge. Bedload slot is one of direct method and cannot measure bedload during a flood because of the volume limitation. Indirect method needs correlations between those signals and sediment volume measured by the other method. A small, automatically recording bedload sensor with an iron plate and two loadcells were developed to evaluate not only large particles but also sand particles as bedloads. Bedload mass is calculated by the time integration of the production of both velocity of sediment particle and the averaged weight by two loadcells, and the velocity is estimated by the cross-correlation function of weights by loadcells. The applicability is evaluated by flume tests in laboratory and observation flume of Hodaka Sedimentation Observatory. The system was installed in the observation flume in November of 2012, and flume data was obtained using natural sediment particles.
