ABSTRACT

Scour and deposition around three cylinders in staggered array are simulated using large eddy simulation combined with a ghost cell immersed boundary method. The morphodynamics are realized with detailed sediment motion and morphodynamic models. The scouring pattern and its depth are highly affected by the cylinder interval. When the cylinder interval is smaller than 3.75, the global scour is developed due to an increase in turbulence. The maximum scour depth shows that it tends to decrease with increasing interval, after which scour depth increase beyond 3.75 of cylinder interval.
