ABSTRACT

Kamiyama-sawa No. 1 sabo dam in the Kiso river basin, Japan, is narrow slit sabo dam with a shutter consisted of transversal iron bars. In order to investigate a sediment control function of slit with shutters, several sensors for flow depth, washload, bedload, turbidity, bed shear stress and flow condition around the sabo dam were installed, and collected those data. After installation sensors, there were two flood events, typical water and sediment runoff data was collected for the first time on July 9 in 2014. Water and sediment runoff controlled by a narrow slit and shutters resulted in runoff of peak delaying and smoothing, especially in decreasing stage of the flood.
