ABSTRACT

The objective of this research is to develop a procedure to evaluate emulsifier optimization for emulsified asphalt cold recycling when execution conditions are special, such as short curing time, long-time transport, and poor curing conditions. Seven kinds of emulsifier were selected in this paper. The cohesion force test, workability test and coring test were taken to evaluate early strength, workable time and integrity of cold recycled mixture with these emulsifiers. The emulsified asphalts with composite emulsifiers were produced for special execution conditions. The test results showed that the cold recycled mixture with emulsifiers C and D had better workability. The order of the cold recycled mixture’s early strength from large to small was F>G>E>D>C>A>B. The cold recycled mixture with emulsifiers E, F, and G had better integrity. The emulsified asphalts with composite emulsifiers were used for road construction with special execution conditions in the city of Beijing.
