ABSTRACT

On account of the structure characteristic of porous asphalt mixture, the relationships among the volume parameters of porous asphalt mixture by means of mathematical deduction and theoretical analysis are studied. The quantitative relationship among the volume parameters is established. The change law and internal mechanism of VMA and VCAmix are revealed by the indoor tests. Based on the quantitative relationship, an early prediction formula is built to calculate the asphalt content for porous asphalt mixture, and then a new method to design the porous asphalt mixture is put forward. The results show that VMA should be estimated without preparation of Marshall Specimens to obtain both an optimum asphalt content and necessary void content. What’s more, the new method of designing the porous asphalt mixture is verified to be not only applicable but also effective.
