ABSTRACT

Half-warm asphalt was prepared by a high-speed shear apparatus with a 10:100 ratio of half-warm asphalt additive to asphalt. AC-13 was used for the mix design of the half-warm asphalt mixture in order to determine the optimum asphalt content, mixing temperature, and curing condition. The results showed that there was no chemical reaction when the half-warm asphalt additives and asphalt were mixed. When the temperature was lower than 188.5°C, the half-warm asphalt had good thermal stability. The elastic recovery of aged half-warm asphalt in the Rolling Thin-Film Over Test (RTFOT) was improved, and the unrecoverable deformation resistance was increased. The mixing temperature of the half-warm asphalt was identified as 95°C, the curing condition was 10 days at room temperature (23°C∼27°C), and the optimum asphalt content was 4.8%.
