ABSTRACT

Recently, there is an increasing interest in skid resistance due to driving safety. The previous work on the skid resistance performance has indicated that the aggregate type is a main factor which affected the skid resistance. The accelerated abrasion experiment is used to simulate the vehicle load, with the aims of finding the decay law of skid resistance of High Friction Surfaces (HFS). The data of texture depth and pendulum type friction coefficient were measured after certain cumulative polishing cycles. The Asymptotic exponential model could well reflect the relationship between skid resistance and the cumulative polishing cycles. Studies have shown that that the texture depth and pendulum type friction coefficient tend to decrease gradually as the cumulative polishing cycles increasing. However, pendulum type friction coefficient increased at first 10000 cumulative polishing cycles as the falling off f asphalt membrane. The skid resistance performance increased when the dosage of aggregate which has good performance itself increasing.
