ABSTRACT

Over the years, complete prosthesis or denture has suffered a gradual process of transformation, not only motivated by technical and instrumental development but also by the increase in life expectancy and preventive medicine (Geering & Kundert, 1988). The last two conditions situated treatment with dentures in the third age. If on one hand this could mean a decrease in the number of individuals with dentures, on the other, there is a notorious increase in the difficulty of these rehabilitations. Such difficulty is due to anatomical, physiological and psychological conditions often degraded in this age group. The treatment of these patients requires more than a simple manual ability of professionals. It is one of the most important, demanding and difficult work in dental clinical practice (Geering & Kundert, 1988; Silva et al., 2005; Baran et al., 2007).
