ABSTRACT

Nevertheless, the FEM presents some drawbacks. Since the FEM is a mesh-dependent discretization method, the obtained numerical solution is directly influenced by the element mesh arrangement. Furthermore, the discretization of complex geometries require an additional computational effort. Thus, in these cases, the time spent in the generation of the element mesh represents the majority of the computational cost of the complete FEM analysis, being the actual solution of the partial differential equations only a small fraction of the complete computational cost.
