ABSTRACT

In pregnant women, the risks are more important when obesity is more severe. Obesity during pregnancy is a well known risk factor for a number of adverse effects on the mother and on the fetus, including the increase of cesarean births, macrosomia, preeclampsia and gestational diabetes. Obesity during pregnancy is also associated with an increased risk of abortion, fetal congenital anomalies, thromboembolism, delivery dysfunctions, postpartum hemorrhage, suture infections, stillbirth and mortality during neonatal period (2009). A critical goal for women at reproductive age is to make behavior changes to achieve good nutritional status especially before conception, which may lead to improved birth outcomes (Navolan et al. 2013).
