ABSTRACT

Land activities are essential to meet human needs to ensure proper social, economic and ecological functions. In Malaysia, the Land Acquisition Act 1960 is the tool used by the government to synchronize and develop land for public purposes and for the provision of economic benefits to the country. Through compulsory acquisition, the land can be obtained even though the proprietor does not agree to sell it, and no bargaining over the price is necessary. The issue of the acquisition of traditional lands is more than just a matter of law and compensation; it is a matter of justice between society and the people. One of the issues highlighted concerns the occurrence of land acquisition and resettlement areas. Another issue raised is the infrastructure and social facilities offered. The implementation of the projects involved certainly has both negative and positive socioeconomic impacts on the local residents and the surrounding areas.
