Elderly Orphans with Alzheimer’s Disease: Non-Traditional Support Systems

Soniat and Pollack shift our focus from assessment to outreach. The “orphan elders” are those who do not have close family members who can serve as caregivers. These elders rely upon makeshift networks of neighbors and agencies, and even unlikely sources. The authors suggest that the people who compose these networks be brought into the process of assessment and management.
