ABSTRACT

Gamma Knife dosimetry chapter reviews important dosimetric measurement techniques used to characterize the Gamma Knife radiosurgery system (Elekta, Stockholm, Sweden). This work will focus on the latest two models of Gamma Knife. The chapter focuses on the dosimetric methods used to characterize the Gamma Knife. This includes absolute dosimetry at the radiation focus and relative dosimetry techniques to further characterize the system. The chapter focuses on techniques used by the author personally as well as some techniques from the literature. The goal is for this chapter to be a useful and practical guide to Gamma Knife dosimetry. Even though attempts to be all inclusive were made, there are always different and new methods being developed, and the reader is encouraged to keep reviewing the literature for new publications.
