ABSTRACT

In this chapter the imaging guidance doses to radiotherapy patients from commonly used imaging modalities and their dosimetry are briefly reviewed. Techniques and methods for imaging dose determinations are briefly described. Tabulated organ doses from commonly used image acquisition procedures are provided for a quick reference. The tabulated data can be used to estimate if the accumulated imaging dose from multiple imaging procedures exceeds the threshold of 5% of the therapeutic target dose beyond which imaging dose should be considered in the treatment planning process. The data can also be used by clinicians to make informed decisions in selecting an appropriate imaging procedure regarding the risk and benefits of x-ray image guidance.
