ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses the basic concept of acquisition and computation in various types of biometric systems being used in different applications like authentication and security. First, the discussion is focused on the different steps like feature extraction, classification used in development of any biometric system and then different Performance measures required for comparison of different biometric methods have been presented in detail. Finally, various biometric recognition systems like fingerprint recognition, face recognition and multimodal are explained along with the state of art methods being used today.
