ABSTRACT

The duties of a writer in an AAA studio are different from those of a creative director, after all; likewise, the responsibilities of a writer in an indie studio aren't those of a solo developer or a freelancer. This chapter outlines a practical philosophy of planning that is useful regardless of writer’s role in the industry. It explains how to understand and set plans, schedules, and budgets. Scheduling is critical to the success of any creative endeavor. The chapter explores how to track the progress of writer’s project and also explains how best to work with writer’s team and their producer. Communication throughout the project is critical: the team needs to remain in constant discussion, all departments working closely together. Work with writer’s producer to set realistic, healthy goals and save their —and their game—from harm.
