ABSTRACT

Primary health-care (PHC) services in Palestine are provided by the Ministry of Health, non-governmental organizations, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, and the private sector. The PHC system in Palestine suffers from overall staffing constraints with a shortage of trained and specialized family physicians. The Palestinian Ministry of Health is fully committed to re-orienting the existing PHC system towards Family Practice. The Palestinian National Health Strategy 2017–2022 comprises two main national policy priorities: comprehensive health services for all and improving public health and well-being. The Palestinian health system will require consolidated multisectoral action to progress towards universal health coverage and to address the complex political and social challenges. The Palestinian National Institute of Public Health, one of the World Health Organization projects in Palestine, has signed an agreement with the Palestinian Ministry of Health to implement the family practice model in three to four districts in the West Bank and five to seven clinics in the Gaza Strip.
