ABSTRACT

In Qatar, both public and private facilities provide nationals and residents with primary health-care services. The Qatar Red Crescent Society, a charitable organization, is contracted by the Ministry of Public Health to provide primary care services to single male individuals and workers across the state, and there are a significant number of private primary care facilities available to patients through self-funding or private health insurance. Greater emphasis on increasing national workforce capacity through initiatives such as the Qatari Senior Leadership Programme ensures the supply of health professionals and the workforce skill mix in primary care and keeps pace with the demand for primary care services and innovation. In order to realize Qatar’s National Health Strategy goal of embedding evidence-based clinical practice, a clinical guidelines adoption programme was initiated in Primary Health Care Corporation with the formation of a Guideline Review Committee to ensure appropriate governance of the development of clinical guidelines.
