ABSTRACT

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) health-care sector is divided between public and private health-care providers. Private health-care service providers provide specialty and full-spectrum care for the UAE population. Health-care development and spending are emphasized as key pursuits in the UAE’s federal diversification plan. In UAE, primary health care (PHC), with its main focus on aligning with national targets, provides an integrated programme with services such as school health, adolescent health, maternal and child health, screening programmes, non-communicable diseases management and control, mental health, community dental services, and geriatric services. In UAE, health-care services are provided throughout life. PHC programmes and services for pregnant women, infant and children are available in primary care facilities throughout the country. One of the most successful programmes in maternal and child health is the UAE National Breastfeeding Programme. The medical information system is a major priority for UAE.
