ABSTRACT

Silica nanoparticles (SNPs) have drawn attention due to their tailorable morphology and ability to get engineered for various applications. In the last few years, variable efforts have been made to the fabrication and functionalization procedures, which have resulted in a significant improvement in its physio-chemical properties. The particle size, shape, porosity, and crystallinity can be precisely manipulated using various approaches. Some techniques like flame spray pyrolysis, chemical vapor deposition (CVD), micro-emulsion, ball milling, sol-gel, etc. have resulted in multiple forms of silica nanoparticles. Organic and inorganic moieties doping and surface functionalization of SNPs has changed the course of the biological system, making it a platform for therapeutic delivery, sensing, biomedical imaging, and ablative therapies.
