ABSTRACT

A restoration site such as the basilica of the Nativity, due to its complexity and the number of operators involved, can be compared in some way to the large work sites of the Gothic-Renaissance cathedrals. The preservation of the authenticity of the church of the Nativity and the transfer of its universal value to future generations were always taken into account in all the work stages. On October 4, 2013 the scaffolding elements reached the site transported by two 40-ft containers, and they were unloaded into temporary storage areas in front of the Nativity church after getting the approval from the three Churches’ representatives. Outside the church, several measurements, analyses and tests were made on-site to decide the best location to erect the crane that should have speeded up the restoration process and transported or lifted the materials safely from one place to another.
