ABSTRACT

Clostridum butyricum is a kind of probiotics which has the properties of maintaining the intestinal microecological balance, improving immunity, anticancer, and producing nutrients. Clostridium butyricum has a bright future of development and utilization and now it has already been applied in food, medical, breeding, and industry areas, but the research and exploitation of Clostridium butyricum is slow and hasn’t arose much attention, and now it is still at the beginning. This chapter introduced the morphological characteristics and biochemical characteristics of Clostridium butyricum, summarized its physiological function and application in food, medical, industry, and animal feed, pointed out the problems during research and application to provide references for further exploitation of Clostridium butyricum as a novel and effective probiotic.
