ABSTRACT
Making life easier and more welcoming for the specially-abled persons in mainstream society is a major challenge. Currently, more than one billion people are estimated to suffer from disability due to various reasons. Lack of support systems make these people economically inactive and socially excluded, which as a result increases their dependency on the family. IoT (Internet of things) is an emerging technology which can extend its helping hand to impaired people for providing a better life. In the first section of this chapter we briefly describe the existing technology and the relevance of bringing IoT to this platform. In the next section, we provide an overview of various IoT-enabled systems to support handicapped people.
