ABSTRACT

Nowadays, composite materials are used in various applications where light weight and high specific modulus and strength are a major concern. Composites conclusively contribute to sustainable development within our society. They are made by combining two or more materials to give a unique combination of properties. Animal-based polymers are gaining considerable attention day by day due to environmental concerns. Synthetic polymeric material-based nanocomposites are generally hazardous and non-biodegradable, which is a great threat to the environment, but natural polymeric nanocomposites are eco-friendly, cost-effective, easy to process, renewable, and biodegradable. This chapter describes the biofabrication of animal-based polymeric nanocomposites by the biosynthesis process. It also discusses the influence of various physicochemical parameters on the preparation of nanocomposites and their application in different fields. Overall, this chapter describes the current progress in relation to natural polymeric nanocomposite synthesis in order to gain better understanding of their safe use for various biomedical and engineering applications.
