ABSTRACT
This article addresses the use of master alloys used primarily for grain refinement of aluminum and its alloys. However the use of master alloys for microstructure and property control is also discussed. Specific topics include: principles and classification of master alloys, physical metallurgy of basic master alloy systems, applications of master alloys, and techniques for microstructure modification and property improvement.
