ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on the following items cloud services used in higher education; considerations for higher education when moving to cloud technology; and negative and positive impact on students in higher education. A common way for businesses and higher education to be successful in their implementation is for administrators to be knowledgeable about networking, virtualization, routing, data movement, data use, process management, and security to be helpful to an organization using cloud computing. The capacity of the cloud services provider assists in keeping costs low by allowing the institution to create a flexible model and offload the responsibility of the servers and data centres to the cloud services provider. The common reason for a higher education institution to switch to cloud services is economic, relating to the reduction in funding and the need to increase competitiveness through better student and staff experiences.
