ABSTRACT

The specification of concrete, in terms of EN 206:2013, is defined as the final compilation of documented technical requirements given to the producer in terms of performance or composition, including the constituents. This standard considers the use of recycled concrete aggregates (RA) but in quite different ways in the various national provisions (see chapter 34). Nevertheless, there is a common way that is comprised of two aspects, the quality of the aggregates and the type of concrete. The present chapter details the standards currently in use in France dealing with the introduction of RA in concrete. A safe approach is adopted up to now. Due to the lack of knowledge concerning the durability of concrete including RA, recycling is limited for coarse aggregate, and in most cases prohibits the use of fine aggregate. The French national project 270RECYBÉTON was thus organized to provide answers to a wide range of questions concerning RA and concrete including RA (RAC). Significant results were obtained to justify the evolution of the standards as the natural follow-up of the works.
