ABSTRACT

For a passenger vehicle in Switzerland a gauge changing bogie with independently rotating wheels is developed which can run on 1000 mm and 1435 mm gauge. To avoid running in a non-centered position and in consequence non-symmetric wheel wear the existing wheel profile is optimized within the admissible manufacturing tolerances. The new profile offers higher restoring force by an improved contact angle function. The dynamic behavior of the bogie with the optimized wheel profile is investigated in a Multi-Body-Simulation. First results of test-runs with prototype bogies confirm the expected behavior.
