ABSTRACT

Tilting technology has enabled trains to increase up to 30% the running speed on the existing track, thus becoming the most cost efficient solution to increase the transport capacity. The paper aims to summarize the Alstom experience in developing trains with an active tilting system to reduce the lateral acceleration on passengers in curves and thereby allow the speed increase. After a brief historical excursus, the adopted solutions and their dynamic behavior simulations and assessment for safety and comfort is discussed.
