The following paper presents the simulation model of a powertrain for commercial vehicles. Due to the variety in chassis and motorisations of commercial vehicles the powertrain changes significantly from vehicle to vehicle. This induces accordingly high differences in the powertrain’s torsional vibration behaviour. To handle the vibrational effects that may occur under setup variation, a multi-body simulation model is designed to analyse dynamic motion. The model comprises variability in the vehicle setup as well as in modelling depth. This modularity of the model allows adjustment for a maximum number of vehicle variants. As well as this, the complexity of the model is easily adjusted to be able to focus on a specific point of interest without major losses in calculation efficiency. Two examples show the model’s abilities and illustrate the investigation of the system’s dynamic properties through sensitivity analysis.
