ABSTRACT

In the current paper the results of ΔT C, parameter used for evaluation of aging-related cracking potential of the Gilsonite and Trinidad Epuré modified asphalt binders are presented. The ΔT C parameter is used for assessment of the properties of asphalt binders in relation to initialize the low temperature cracking. The ΔT C parameter is defined as the numerical difference between the temperature values associated with the stiffness modulus (S) and the stiffness gradient (m-value) criteria determined using a Bending Beam Rheometer. In the case of asphalt binders analyzed in the paper the ΔT C parameter values were determined both before and after the short-term and long-term aging processes. It was noted that the ΔT C parameter increases as a result of aging processes in case of all analyzed asphalt binders. Gilsonite modified asphalt binders are characterized by slightly lower ΔT C values than Trinidad Epuré modified ones.
