ABSTRACT

The possibility of preparing emulsion-mineral mixtures without preliminary wetting of the mineral aggregate has been established. Homogeneous spread of bitumen emulsion on the surface of the aggregate can be achieved by first combining with a mixture of crushed stone and sand, which is a part of the mineral aggregate. The excess emulsion content gives a possibility of a rapid coating of the aggregates surface. The subsequent adding of the mineral filler into the mixture binds the remaining free part of the bitumen emulsion. Thus, high homogeneity of the mixture is achieved after shorter mixing period. If the emulsion-mineral mixture is cured for a certain time until evaporation of a part of the water, it will be thickened. This leads to additional water reduction. The optimum moisture values of emulsion-mineral mixtures are determined. These are the values at which the breakability of crushed stone at compaction is reduced and the physical and mechanical indexes are increased.
