ABSTRACT

This paper focuses on addressing the effects of climate change on pavements. Climate change has resulted in increased storms, droughts, flooding, temperatures, and other climate extreme events that have become more frequent and powerful. As a result, climate change is now affecting transportation assets significantly worldwide. This paper describes a methodology to quantify the risk of asset failure due to climatic events in particular pavements. The methodology includes a risk assessment approach based on probabilistic equations for occurrence and severity. A Risk Priority Number (RPN) is propose as a reference number to prioritize funding allocation considering risk of failure due to o extreme climate events.
